The year's three final full moons will illuminate Michigan skies and appear larger and brighter in the night sky the usual.
The last three full moons of 2025, coming in early October, November and December, will be supermoons — appearing at closest point to Earth in the body's elliptical orbit, or perigee, according to NASA.
If you'd like to get a closer look at the supermoons, keep an eye out for clear skies and head to your nearest dark sky area.
Here's what to know about supermoons.
When will Michigan see supermoons in 2025?
These supermoons are coming in 2025:
- Harvest Moon: Oct. 6
- Beaver Moon: Nov. 5
- Cold Moon: Dec. 4
What is a supermoon?
A supermoon occurs when a full or new moon falls during the closest point in the moon's orbit to Earth,NASA said. The full moon can appear up to 14% bigger and 30% brighter at its closest point in the orbit.
Where can you view supermoons?
While the moon will appear overhead across the state, look for a clear, open area to best view the supermoons in Michigan's skies.Michiganis home to sixdark skystate parks, three international dark sky parks and an international dark sky sanctuary.

- In Port Austin,Port Crescent State Park, 1775 Port Austin Road.
- In Clayton,Lake Hudson Recreation Area, 5505 Morey Hwy.
- In Carp Lake,Wilderness State Park, 903 Wilderness Park Drive.
- Keweenaw Dark Sky Park in Keweenaw County and Dr. T.K. Lawless Park in Cass County are international spots. And, finally, the Beaver Island State Wildlife Research Area is an international sanctuary.
